Discovery Education, a digital learning solutions provider, has appointed Kara Schlageter as its first Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), marking a key step in strengthening its leadership team and advancing secure, responsible AI innovation as digital learning continues to evolve.

In her new role, Schlageter will lead the organization’s information security, governance, and risk management strategy, ensuring that all solutions are developed with secure-by-design principles at their core.

Schlageter brings more than 25 years of experience spanning cybersecurity, enterprise risk, and large-scale transformation in highly regulated environments. She is known for aligning technical security strategies with business priorities and translating cyber risk into informed decision-making.

“Kara’s appointment as our first Chief Information Security Officer reflects Discovery Education’s unwavering commitment to responsible innovation. Security, privacy, and trust must be built into every product we create, especially as we accelerate our innovation with AI,” said Brian Shaw, Chief Executive Officer of Discovery Education.

“Digital learning is evolving rapidly, and the opportunity to reinforce trust has never been greater,” said Schlageter. “Protecting educators and students is a shared responsibility, and I look forward to working across Discovery Education to embed secure-by-design practices into every capability we build to support teaching and learning.”
